5th Grade Math
Our fifth grade Math curriculum is based completely on the 5th grade Common Core Standards.
All of our lessons and student learning activities are based on helping students learn at a greater depth than in the past
Since 2015-2016, we have had a new Common Core Aligned version of EnVision Math.
The online resources will be available, with the teacher provided login info at https://www.pearsonrealize.com
In Grade 5, instructional time will focus on three critical areas:
(1) developing fluency with addition and subtraction of fractions, and developing understanding of the multiplication of fractions and of division of fractions in limited cases (unit fractions divided by whole numbers and whole numbers divided by unit fractions);
(2) extending division to 2-digit divisors, integrating decimal fractions into the place value system and developing understanding of operations with decimals to hundredths, and developing fluency with whole number and decimal operations; and
(3) developing understanding of volume.

There are 4 main topics we will cover in the adopted BUSD Science textbook we have to use this year. Besides the text books, we will also use hands on activities, experiments and field trips.
We will also start following the new Next Generation Science Standards for 5th Grade.
To make our students successful in using the new standards, we will use the supplemental resources of Science Studies Weekly and Mystery Science.
